My Makeup Overhaul

If you have been following me for the past few months, you know I’ve been on a new journey towards using safer skincare products for myself and my family. You can read all about it on this post.

One of the things I am working on progressively changing is my cosmetics. Now, you all know I love makeup and I am obsessed with lipstick and lipgloss!

While changing out my body lotion, face and body wash, and shampoo to Beautycounter’s safer products has been quick and easy, the process of switching my makeup has and will be slower as I try new products and new safer cosmetics are released.

The way I see it is that every small change I make with safer product I substitute for a toxic one in my daily routine, lowers the chemical load on my skin and body each day. I like to think that any change we can make is a positive one. Over time, these small changes can make a BIG difference for ourselves and our families.

I find it worth noting that Christy Coleman, a well-known celebrity makeup artist, joined Beautycounter as the Creative Director after her own dad’s passing from Lou Gehrig’s disease, which has been linked to ingredients like formaldehyde which was in products she was using on her makeup clients everyday. Her passion and vision and overall expertise is amazing and I cannot wait to see the new products she develops in the coming months/years!

With all that said, I have been VERY impressed with most of the Beautycounter cosmetics I have tried so far, and want to share with you the ones I am starting to incorporate into my daily regime.

1. Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20. This three-in-one moisturizer, sunscreen and foundation has been a life saver this summer. I wear it on the daily to the gym, the pool, running errands, etc. {I like to apply it with my BeautyBlender, but you can also apply with this brush.} It gives light coverage and great sun-protection. It’s no surprise it’s an Allure Magazine “Best of Beauty” Award Winner!

{Note :: I prefer a heavier foundation for evening, events and photo-shoots…but this one is great for my everyday running around town, and saves time since it is three-in-one!} I wear shade No.3 as do most people I know with medium toned skin.

2. Matte Bronzer. I am a self-proclaimed bronzer junkie and this one is as good as any of my more toxic-favorites. There are two shades {I wear the darker of the two} and I love how the color is perfectly bronze, not orangey. A few sweeps and your face looks alive and sun-kissed!

3. Color Sweep Blush Duo. I am absolutely obsessed with this blush in the Flamingo/Apricot duo. The color is just soooo pretty! I have tried it on multiple skin tones and it looks fabulous on everyone. If you are in need a new blush, look know further. {An added bonus is that the packaging is beautiful!}

4. Lipgloss. I’m a gal who likes to keep a gloss on her lips 24/7. I’ve been convicted about how many chemicals I am absorbing and even ingesting through my lip products. {YUK!}

While I still continue to use my favorite drug store and department store brands of lipsticks and lip glosses for when I need more color, I love the Beautycounter Lipglosses as my go-to everyday gloss. These are shiny and moisturizing, yet not sticky. They go on sheer, and are also perfect for layering over a lipstick. {Shop Beautycounter’s Lipstick options here.}

5. Touchup Concealer Pen. I love this product! It hides dark circles, redness, and other imperfections and actually stays put for long-lasting, flawless wear!

Last but not least, if you are on the hunt for luxe, yet affordable makeup brushes, Beautycounter’s brushes are fabulous. They can be purchased individually or as a set.

I hope you will join me on my journey to safer skincare and cosmetics! Please feel free to email me anytime with questions about any products. Also, I am excitedly and actively growing a fun team of women from around the country to share the Beautycounter mission. If you are interested in possibly joining my team as a Beautycounter consultant, I would love to chat and answer your questions!

Stylishly yours,

    What do you think of their mascara? I’m trying to switch to safer cosmetics as well, but I’m a lash junkie so a good volumizing and lengthening mascara is really important to me. Would love to hear your thoughts!

      A new volumizing mascara is launching tomorrow and it is so so good! I cannot wait! I will be sharing more soon!
