How to Style Your Bed Like a Pro

I am SO excited to finally share with you my bedroom makeover that I have been working with The Home Depot on for the past few months!

This has truly been one of the most fun home decor and blog projects I’ve worked on to date, and I’m thrilled to share “part one” of my master bedroom reveal with you today. {Stay tuned for the second part coming next week.}

If you are like me, I had no idea that The Home Depot carried an extensive collection of home decor and linens before starting this project. I was absolutely amazed by the gorgeous selection of stylish home goods that The Home Depot offers.

Today, I am going to start with the focal point of every bedroom, the bed, and share some tips on how to style your bed like a pro. {Lucky for me, I had HGTV designer Bryan Patrick Flynn in my home for the shoot, putting together my bed and bedroom himself! I learned a lot from him along the way!}

How to style your bed like a pro ::

1. Start with a bed you love.

I chose the Gordon Sleigh Bed by Home Decorator’s Collection because I love how the tall headboard makes a statement and that the footboard keeps the end of the bed looking neat and tidy, without needing a bed skirt! The neutral color of the bed allows me to add punches of color through pillows and accessories, which clearly is important to a color-loving gal like me!

2. Select a neutral, cozy quilt or duvet.

I am always drawn to white linens because the look is clean and crisp, can mix and match with any other colors and will never go out of style. This white Monaco duvet by the Home Decorator’s Collection is super soft and gives a perfect blank canvas to dress your bed! It is literally the most comfortable duvet I have ever owned!

A styling tip for making a duvet look extra full and plush :: Fill with two duvet inserts!

3. Pillows, pillows and more pillows! A stylish bed simply cannot have too many pillows!

Start with shams for the first layer. I prefer using shams that match the duvet, like these Home Decorator’s Collection Monoco shams, to keep consistency for the back row of pillows. Down or synthetic-down pillow inserts look the best in large shams.

Layer with decorative pillows that will help anchor the décor for the entire room. I love the look of mixing textures, patterns, colors and metallics. I especially love the look of these Safavieh Elle and Cole metallic pillows mixed with beaded textures and pops of color. These Safavieh Ricci Embellished Hand-Beaded Pillows are a fabulous way to add texture and shine to a bed.

Pillows are also great way to tie in the bed to the rest of the room, by adding coordinating pillows to a arm chair, desk chair and/or bench. Adding a touch of faux-fur for texture, like I did on the desk chair with this pillow, is always a good idea!

4. Layer with a cozy throw. Don’t underestimate the power of a cozy throw layered at the bottom of the bed.

A pretty little blanket helps finish the look of the bed, and also provides an easy layering piece to cuddle up under while reading or resting. I love throws with tassels and pom-poms, like this one by Artistic Weavers, since they add extra texture and visual interest to the entire bed.

The most important aspect of a well-dressed bed is that should look styled yet comfortable and inviting. My newly styled bed has become my favorite spot to relax and retreat in my house!

Stay tuned for the rest of my bedroom reveal with The Home Depot, coming to the blog next week!

Stylishly yours,
